Interior

Dash out: new veneer, clean gauges — and a hidden USB feed

The wooden dashboard comes out for restoration, and quietly gains a little of the 21st century on the way back in.

TR6 wooden dashboard removed, on the workbench

The TR6’s wooden dash is one of its best features, and this one has had a hard life in the sun — faded, cracked, veneer lifting at the edges.

Getting it out is a masterclass in 1970s ergonomics (that is: lying upside-down in the footwell holding a spanner you can’t see). Every gauge, switch and bulb came out with it, all labelled and photographed.

While it’s apart, the modern touch: a discreet USB-C outlet fed from a fused, relay-switched supply, tucked out of sight below the dash. Phone navigation without a cigarette-lighter adapter dangling in a restored interior.
