My Daily Driver Has a Clunk From the Front. Is it an easy fix?

Adam introduces the Jaguar daily driver that has developed a clunk from the left front, explains he spotted the cause while under the car, and plans to fix it quickly and do front brake pads with his son helping.

With the wheel off the ground he rocks it to find a small amount of play in one direction only, ruling out a wheel bearing as the source of the clunk.

He shows the completely disintegrated lower wishbone bush, notes the rear one is tired but intact and that full replacement would need the steering rack out, then uses a pry bar to confirm the rear bush has no play.

He plans to raise the car, fit the special spring retaining tool to lock the spring safely, then drive the wishbone across to punch the old bush out and press a new one in without removing the rack.

With the spring secured he punches at the bush, and after repeated heating manages to shift the inner metal sleeve and get the bush pieces out, noting the through-bolt itself is seized in the subframe.

After cleaning the bore he tries to slide the new bush on and drive it in with a socket, but the attempt is difficult and ultimately unsuccessful that evening.

After giving up overnight he cleans the area further, notes the rusted bolt will need a future subframe swap, and with grease gets the new bush in far enough to fit the washer and nut, to be torqued on the ground before fitting new brake pads.

On the road the new front pads have bedded in, the pedal feels good and the clunk is gone; Adam admits the fix was not the correct method but got the daily back on the road, and signs off.
